About Villefranche-sur-Mer: the bay and the Port de la Santé

The Nice Côte d’Azur tourist board describes the Port de la Santé, north of the citadel, as home to fishing boats, a few pleasure craft and, above all, the shuttles from the cruise ships at anchor. Two mooring buoys in the bay help ships make their call, placed by a pilot from the port of Nice, and the port welcomes more than 200,000 cruise passengers a year (explorenicecotedazur.com). Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, on Cap Ferrat, is just across the bay.

Why it's on our list

  • Ships at anchor; launches to the quay
  • More than 200,000 cruise passengers a year
  • Nice and Cap Ferrat close by
