The ports

Who it suits. On a budget: A week round trip from Sydney or Brisbane on a big ship to the South Pacific, a night at YHA Sydney Harbour before you sail, and sights you can walk to from the quay: the Opera House, the Fiji Museum or the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. Mid-range: A New Zealand circuit on a premium ship, from Auckland to the Bay of Islands and the Fiordland sounds, with the Great Barrier Reef or a Hawaiian island loop for a second voyage, and a harbour-front night at the Hilton on Princes Wharf. Luxury: A small luxury ship or yacht from Papeete through the Society Islands, Aqua Blu through Komodo and the Spice Islands, or a Kimberley expedition, with Pier One in Sydney, the Halekulani in Waikīkī or an overwater suite at Four Seasons Bora Bora before or after.
