Disney Cruise Line: the back story
The back story
About Disney Cruise Line: the back story
Disney Cruise Line builds its ships the way it builds its parks: around stories. Nine ships now sail, from the classic Disney Magic to the new Disney Destiny, with a ship in Singapore and a fleet of 13 planned by late 2030.
Ships like storybooks
Disney ships are easy to spot: navy hulls, red funnels and gold detailing, ‘distinctive’ in the line’s own word. Inside, everything is a story. Restaurants are dinner theatres, the evening shows are Broadway-style musicals, and on most sailings the night ends with fireworks, something the line says no other cruise line offers.
Rotational dining
Disney’s signature idea is rotational dining: you move to a different themed restaurant each night. On the Wish-class ships that means Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure on Disney Wish, or, on the new Disney Destiny, Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King, a musical dinner, and Worlds of Marvel with Baby Groot. Adults can slip away to Palo, the adult-exclusive Italian restaurant, or to Enchanté by Chef Arnaud Lallement on the Wish class.
The only fireworks at sea.
Clubs for every age
Children have Disney’s Oceaneer Club, tweens have Edge and teens have Vibe, while the youngest go to the ‘it’s a small world’ nursery. With the children busy, parents have adult lounges, the Senses Spa & Salon and adult-exclusive pools and restaurants.
Two islands
Disney Castaway Cay, in the Bahamas, is reserved for Disney guests on Bahamian and Caribbean cruises. In summer 2024 a second destination opened: Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, on the island of Eleuthera, designed around Bahamian culture and conservation, with a kids’ club on the beach and an adult-exclusive beach to the north.
Further afield
Disney Adventure is now sailing from Singapore on three- and four-night cruises, with seven themed areas and a fireworks show set to The Lion King, narrated by Shah Rukh Khan. Disney Believe, the fourth Wish-class ship, sails from Port Everglades on 18 December 2027.
Our advice: book early, as school-holiday sailings fill first; choose a Wish-class ship for the newest dinner shows; and pick an itinerary with Castaway Cay or Lookout Cay, ideally both.
